Columbia's Bustier
Last Updated: 5/30/2009
Provenance:
Larry Viezel purchased the bustier directly from Yasmin Pettigrew, the costume mistress at the Theatre Upstairs. It was displayed at two conventions in 2006. Larry was kind enough to let me take some photos at the Manchester convention; a couple of months later I was scooped by Sarah Kucera, who took photos at the Chicago convention and posted them to the Livejournal group rhpscostumes years before I ever got around to putting mine up. Thanks to Sarah for letting me use her pics here - they're the big ones, credited to SK.

Bustier front, laid out flat. Note the little hanging loops so the bustier could be hung on a hanger. Larger photos taken by Sarah, which show most of the front, but not a complete view, are
here,
here, and
here.
-
Edging - SK photo. Note the half-dyed sequins, similar to those on the fabric Larry offers today. You can see the bustier fabric under the sequins and how the edge is bound with some sort of twill tape. Some of the sequins are loose, as can be seen
here. A photo of the bottom edging is
here - photo SK.
-
Bustier inside view - photo SK. Note the boning casing and center seam. A closeup of the center front seam is
here - note the sequin material that's been sewn into the seam and the safety pin, used perhaps to keep the front of the bustier from flipping up. A closeup of some of the boning sticking out from its casing is
here - photo SK

Bustier inside view of the hooks.
-
Eye-side front flipped over the inside. (There's got to be a better way to describe that.) Conversely, here is the inside of the hook side flipped over the front.
-
The eyes that fasten the sides of the bustier. Closeup shots near the eyes on the sequin side are here and
here.
-
Bustier back view.

Closeup of the outside bust - photo SK.

Misc. sequin fabric shot. Sarah took shots from the mid-bodyand the front.
